PLEASE BEAR WITH ME THIS IS MY COPING MECHANISM IN THE MIDST OF THIS CRAZY FINALS WEEK 8|
ok sooooo like the loser I am I was watching Hunchback of Notre Dame the 1982 version and then the 1939 version (the latter being SO much better than the former let-me-tell-you). So I was thinking about the characters and I was like, "They should totally modernize this story OH MY GOD" and since the entire piece of shit is about effing Esmarelda and it's SOOO high school...
I decided to make it such.
It's more of a parody than anything. When I first thought of it I was totally going to run with it but BAHH. NO. Maybe not. I dunno. We'll see. But here's what I got so far. (This is running more off the novel story/character-based but more the Disney movie design-based.)
For the head's-up: Gypsies = Thespains (theatre kids). And nobody likes them.
Chris Quasi (aka Quasimodo) = most unpopular kid in school cuz he's ugly, he's constantly listening to music so he's a bit hard of hearing (Quasi's deaf in the novel due to the bells, FYI)
Phil Phoebus (aka Phoebus) = NOT Disney Phoebus, novel Phoebus, Captain of the soccer team and the biggest jerk ever.
Esmarelda Roma (aka Esmarelda) = thespian, female lead in every play, super-sexy, yadda yadda. Couldn't think of a better last name for her.
Troy Clopin (aka Clopin Trouillefou) = Leader of the Thespians, kind of a badass (way moreso than the Disney film x3), Esmarelda's cousin/older brother-type figure
Peter Gringoire (aka Pierre Gringoire, aka Sir-Not-Appearing-In-The-Disney-Film) = self-proclaimed poet/playwright/writer/other creative forms, also quite unpopular
Professor Claude Frollo (aka Frollo) = Chemistry teacher who is conflicted by his forbidden attraction to one of his own students (miss Esmarelda)
And Jolly the dog, aka Djali the Goat 8D
------
yeah ok this was just a spur-of-the-moment-did-it-for-the-lulz-type thing. So. Have fun. Or something. I'll try and cut down on the Hunchback stuff.
characters (C) Victor Hugo designs influenced by Disney art (C) me do not use, alter, copy, or distribute
The art looks great, but I'm confused by the naming pattern. Why not use the character's real names? Why are most of them given the last name of the character they're based on, while others have the first or whole name of the character?
